this picture was taken last fall. right now New York mainly is covered in snow! |
This post title sounds a little bit whiny, but honestly I was spending too much time on the internet during the weekends. Last weekend, I spent both Saturday and Sunday internet free. To say it was challenging would be an understatement, it was HARD. I am so use to checking my instagram and emails in the morning. I am embarrassed to say that throughout the weekend I am reading/commenting on blogs, browsing Twitter, and looking at my instagram/Pinterest feed. These things are totally fine, but I was spending to much time on the internet instead of conquering my long to-do list. So after reading, Make It Happen (review to come soon) and plenty of soul searching I decided to un-plug from the internet.
I wrote encouraging "sticky notes" on my devices and put them under my bed and in a drawer. This helped me not to go on them. Also sometimes you have to use the computer, I had to use it to check the local library hours and print a digital stamp. During this whole process, I really wanted to focus on what matters most to me (by no means does that mean the internet doesn't matter, but I needed to focus on stuff other than the internet.) My one little word for 2015 is less so I really want to try spending less time on the internet.
The reward of this all was I conquered my to-do list! I did everything that I wanted to accomplish and even more! Another plus, is I did things I would never have done if I wasn't glued to the computer. During the two days, I cleaned my room and closet, worked on 2015 Project Life and my 2014 first mini album, and finished my purple cowl. I also listened to music that I haven't heard in awhile like Sanctus Real and Sara Groves.
Spending some time off of the internet is really HARD, but it was totally worth it. I don't plan on doing this every weekend, but I do plan on making a habit of spending less time on my screen. . Yes the journey is hard, but at the end you can say YOU DID IT! For me, it was encouraging to say yes I did it and yes I can do it again.
Good for you. It would be a challenge, I'm so use to popping in everywhere to see what is going on. Sounds like you got a lot done.
ReplyDeleteI too am spending more time away from the internet just so I can get things done. Good for you in getting things checked off your list.
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you that I am a little envious of your snow, I wish we had some.
I agree, it's hard but necessary to get more stuff done and to feel gratified by the end of the day. I try to limit my time on the computer and when I do I feel much better. Love the snow!
