Yarn Along.

Wow it has been a long time since I posted on Yarn Along! I have been busy with school, but I have been able to knit in the night. I missed sharing my knitting adventures with you all! 

Last time I posted I was working on my blanket. Recently, I unraveled the blanket and started over. The main reason why I started over, was I was waiting for more yarn to be shipped so I thought, "Why not start over?!" I am very happy that I started over and the blanket is really big (the picture above is an old picture so it doesn't look real big.) 

I also am listening to Jane Eyre. Thank you for all the suggestions because this is one of my favorite books. I think one of the reasons why I like it is the narrator has a great voice and acts out all of the characters!

I am loving this blue yarn for Bernant. It's super soft and perfect for knitting something grand. In the future I would love to make a blanket out of this yarn. Also I love using my quilt my aunt gave me for the picture's backdrop!

here's what i am knitting...

I haven't really done anything new so same old same old! But I do love the Yarn that I am using. The pink yarn is from Berrocco & the gray yarn is from Think Bamboo. So I'll be working on this yarn for a couple of weeks now. I especially love the pink yarn! :)

 

Right now I am freezing in Hornell NY wishing that summer will come soon, ready to settle down in a place, so excited to someday design my room. Hoping you'll have a marvelous Thursday! 

P.S. I finished The Guernsey Literacy and Potato Peel Pie Society. It was amazing the ending was great and the whole story was so heartfelt. I definitely would recommend this book.

here's what i am knitting...

Finally after 2+ weeks I have finished the coffee cup warmer! I decided not to use double pointed needles and instead used circular needles. I was a little bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to grasp the double pointed needles. At the moment it is way too hard for me and the next time I go to a knitting store I’ll ask for instructions on working with double pointed needles. Right now this was the best option and I am pleased with the results.  

For the warmer, I cast on 36 stitches on size 8 needles and used the stockinet stitch (knit 1 row purl the other row) until the piece measures… The pattern has been revised but the original pattern comes from the book More Simple Knitted Gifts. I used Lion Brand Yarn and the color is Charcoal. It’s a really & super soft yarn.

Well I have been working on double pointed needles for a week and it has been a mess! I can't seem to grasp the steps and I end up with tangles. So I am re-thinking my strategy and decided to make the coffee cup holder on the rounded needles instead of the double pointed needles. I have also tried Youtube videos and tutorials but to no avail. For me I think my best bet would be going to a knitting store and asking for advice. Do any of you readers know any good tutorials that helped you with double pointed knitting?

I recently bought yarn and double pointed knitting needles to make a coffee cup holder. I am excited to start, but I have never worked with double pointed knitting needles. So for me this is the land of the unknown! Thankfully there is the internet and You-Tube to help guide me along. :)

This week I have been enjoying my time with my grandparents, eating out, knitting, school work, & watching Perry Mason. Happy Thursday!

a time to think

This week I have been knitting pink items (one of my favorite colors), thinking about new ideas for the blog, anticipating the weekend, and excited to spend a week with my grandparents. Happy Thursday!

P.S. As you have noticed I am changing the general idea of here’s what i am knitting. I am right now in the midst of some projects (will talk more about this in the future) so here’s what I am knitting will be talking about things I am knitting and also what happened during the week and plans for the coming week.

Knitted N Sign

One of my sister’s birthday presents from me was a knitted N to put on her blanket. We both have the same blanket and to avoid confusion I decided to knit something to put on the blanket. My blanket has a knitted heart (you can read more here) and Natalie wanted an N. I created this N by just using the regular garter stitch.  I knit 3 strips and then sewed them together to make an N. Afterwards I sewed the N on the flannel blanket.

I love this warm blanket and I loved the way the N turned out. The yarn I used was Shibu and I used the same yarn for my knitted heart and my shawl. The yarn is beautiful and is one of my favorite brands. All of the pictures were taken by me in our camper. The quilt beneath the blanket was created by my aunt.

Lacy Wrist Warmers

I made these lacy wrist warmers in December for my cousin's fiance. I thought it would be a nice gift to welcome her into the family. I hope she'll enjoy it! They are getting married this week in Buffalo New York. I am so excited for them!

The yarn I used for the wrist warmers was Lion Brand Sock Yarn. I really enjoyed working with this yarn. In the beginning the yarn doesn't feel soft but after you wash and dry it, it feels nice and soft! I also found the pattern on Simple Stitches by Val Pierce. This book is amazing! 

 

I made the wrist warmers but I also made the With Love tag. For the tag, I used paper from an old book then wrote the words with love on a white sheet of paper and finished it off by adding Martha Stewart Paper Tape. On the A tag, I used Martha Stewart Kraft Tags and put an A letter sticker.The tags turned out to be better than I expected! 

Last but not least I made a homemade card to go with the gift. I used blue and red paper from Creative Memories, Martha Stewart Kraft Tags, Martha Stewart Paper Tape, letter sticker, and an Anthropologie envelope. All of the pictures were taken in California.

Hearts and More Hearts

I made 2 hearts in the last week as part of my here's what i am knitting projects. The red heart is just a small knitted heart stuffed with cotton. The plan for that heart is to hang it in my room. Then the gray heart I sewed it on a white fleece blanket. I loved the way it turned out and I have plans to do something like that again! Lastly I found the heart pattern on Simple Stitches by Val Pierce

I am back into Instagram so hopefully I'll start posting pictures on that soon! Also I plan to do sneak peeks on Instagram showing a picture of something I'll be blogging about. Stay tuned! 

My sister Natalie was the model for this shoot! I enjoy taking pictures for her she is so much fun!

Lacy Cream Cowl

I adore this cowl and I enjoyed making it while watching the 2014 Olympics! This pattern came from the book More Last Minute Knitted Gifts. The pattern in the book was for a lacy scarf but I decided to make a cowl instead. I cast on 80 stitches and followed the scarf pattern until the cowl measured 5 inches. Then I cast off and sewed the sides together.

The pictures were taken at Port. Canaveral Florida. My brother took the first picture and my sister took the last picture. They did a great job even though it was 94 degrees outside! :)

Blue Wrist Warmers

I have created another pattern, YAY! It's a super easy pattern perfect for beginners. I used leftover yarn that I had and I love the way it turned out. If you have never made hand warmers this is a perfectly easy pattern for you. But if you have created hand warmers and are a more experienced knitter this pattern would be too easy for you. Blue Wrist Warmers Pattern

Cast on 32 stitches

Knit 2 rows of garter stitch 

*Knit 1 row

Purl 1 row

*Repeat knit 1 row and purl 1 row until piece measures 5 1\2 inches. 

Knit 2 rows of garter stitch. 

Cast off 

Sew the sides together but leave an opening for thumb. 

Make another one. Enjoy!

My Very Own Blue Cowl

I am back to my here’s what i am knitting posts… I really can never stop knitting!  I did need a break for two weeks so I could catch up on my school work. Anyway the yarn that I am using has been around, I used this yarn for the Butterfly cowl you can view this post here. But I really never liked the way it turned out. For me it was too bulky, and it never fit me right. So I unraveled the yarn and started fresh.

The pattern I used comes from the book Simple Stitches by Val Pierce. I highly recommend this book for knitters who want some easy and hard patterns. The pattern  was for hand warmers but I decided why not use this pattern for a cowl. So I took the plunge and I love the way it turned out!

The photo shoot for the cowl was very casual a lace dress with a black hoodie and the blue cowl. My mom took the pictures of me (except the last one which I took) she did a great job and I love the way it turned out. The photos were taken at Ft. Pickens Florida near Pensacola. 

here's what i am knitting...

My knitting adventures unfortunately have been very slow... I haven't created anything since the headband. So I will not be posting anything on here's what i am knitting... for a few weeks. The reason is, at the moment I have no room to store any knitting projects and I have been VERY busy with schoolwork. I will try to regularly post other things as much as I can. As soon as I find space, yarn, or a pattern I'll post something about it.

Gray Headband

For the first time in my knitting adventures, I have created my own  easy pattern! I usually use  other people's patterns that I find on the internet or in books. Sometimes I follow them word for word or other times I add my own twist to the pattern. The pictures were taken in Austin, Texas at our campground. Hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures of me wearing the headband...coming soon!

Gray Headband Pattern

Size 5 needles

Shibui gray yarn 

Cast on 20 stitches 

*Knit 1 purl 1 (repeat k1 p1 to end)

Repeat knit 1 purl 1 (until project measures 47 cm)

Sew the 2 sides together

And enjoy your headband!

Easy Peasy Legwarmers

I enjoyed making these adorable legwarmers. The pattern was very easy and informative. In the past I have made legwarmers but they didn’t turn out as well. The yarn was too thick and I didn’t do a good job of sewing the sides together to create the legwarmer. This time I worked harder and bought sock yarn from Amazon. The yarn was beautiful and I love the completed project.

As always my little sister takes the pictures for me! The pictures were taken in Marathon Texas at our campground.
